1917 Gibson K-1 Mandocello

Good playable condition
This intrument has been played extensively thoughout its life and it shows it.
It has a repaired back crack and some a few repaired cracks in the sides. The side were also refinished at some point. It has replacement period tuners and non-original bridge and tailpiece. Part of the fingerboard binding has been spliced in in a few places.

The good news is that the neck is straight and the top shows no signs of sinkage. It is well set up and the sound is rich, full and powerful. Not a museum piece but well worthy of being played for another 80 or so years.

Original everything, case, pickguard, Handel inlaid tuners and tailpiece.
It did have a refret of the first eleven frets at some point.

No cracks, repairs or structural issues. Neck is straight, and top is perfect.
This is is a beautiful example of a vintage Gibson A-4.

This mandolin has been used as a demo instrument at Wintergrass, Merlefest, and IBMA. Until recently, this has been my personal mandolin. I've done some light french polish touch up work and gave it a fret dressing so it is essentially a new instrument that has been well played.

It has a german spruce top and one piece red maple back, sides and neck. The fingerboard is radiused and it has an ebony pickguard and tailpiece cover. It has a varnish finish. This is a great bluegrass mandolin with a great chop. It is well balanced and projects very well. Tonally, it leans more towards the warm end of the spectrum.
